What is the routine like at an NVOCC? As this topic is full of depth, we spoke to an expert on the subject to approach it with the necessary expertise. We interviewed Rogerio S. Fadigas, who is director of CARGOFAST Logistics do Brasil Ltda , an organization with considerable experience in international logistics . According to him, an NVOCC like CARGOFAST is in frequent contact with shipowners and their shipping agencies. When detailing his routine and his approach to these other actors, he mentions the importance of agility, attention and precision in the daily tasks of employees in these companies. “With the advent of the internet”, he contextualizes, “the main communication channel is the website of shipping companies, which are used to request reservations, check ship schedules and their respective deadlines ” . In the expert's view, both shipowners  number database and agencies have strived to improve the service provided through training and optimized processes. “For us, what really makes the difference is that personal touch — being able to count on employees who always demonstrate commitment, professionalism and a desire to provide good service,” he adds. According to Rogério, there is a lot of confusion that people have between shipowner, NVOCC and maritime agency: about who does what and what are the roles played by these different elements in the foreign trade scenario.



Confusion increases when the professionals involved need to obtain information about the International Terms of Trade, the INCOTERMS ”, he points out. There are companies that usually leave all functions to the NVOCC, regardless of the INCOTERM used. “There was a shipment in which we almost lost the ship, as the tasks that were the responsibility of the dispatcher and the road transporter were assigned to us. In order not to create any friction, we accumulated the functions and kept the client for a long time, even though it was not the appropriate way to work”, he reports. The most problematic result caused by these confusions is the delay in the process and other oversights that can lead to greater complications and generate losses or extra costs — keeping a container stored at the port, for example.
